Kilimanjaro Marathon

Race in Moshi with the mountain over your shoulder, then climb it.

Moshi, at the foot of KilimanjaroPeak: Race weekend — the last Sunday in February

The event

Full marathon, half and 5km through the coffee country below Kilimanjaro. We handle Moshi logistics, race-week acclimatisation, and the safari or summit climb that follows.

The Kilimanjaro Marathon runs out of Moshi Stadium and loops through banana and coffee shambas on the mountain's southern slopes, with Kibo's snowcap in view for most of the course. It sits at around 800–1,000m, so the altitude is honest rather than punishing — but the sun is not, and the second half climbs.

We build race weekends as a package: airport transfer, a Moshi base within walking distance of the start, race registration support, a shakeout run with a local guide, and post-race recovery. Then the part most runners actually come for — either a Kilimanjaro summit attempt on legs that are already fit, or a northern-circuit safari to recover on.

Runners who intend to climb afterwards should allow two rest days between finishing and the trailhead; we schedule this automatically.

What you actually get

  • Full, half and 5km distances through the coffee shambas
  • Moshi accommodation walking distance from the start line
  • Registration and bib collection handled for you
  • Add a Kilimanjaro summit climb on race-fit legs
  • Or recover on a Tarangire and Ngorongoro safari
