Nyabinghi Drumming Circle
Experience the spiritual power of traditional Nyabinghi drumming, the heartbeat of Rastafarian gatherings. Learn about the three main drums — the Bass (the heartbeat), Funde (the rhythm keeper), and Kete (the improviser) — and their significance in Rasta culture. Participants will learn basic rhythms, join in a communal drumming session, and experience the meditative power of collective music-making. This is not a performance — it's a participatory experience where everyone becomes part of the rhythm.
Ital Cooking Workshop
Learn the principles and practice of Ital cooking, the natural plant-based cuisine of Rastafarian culture that emphasizes vitality, purity, and respect for the earth. This hands-on workshop takes you from market to table — start by selecting fresh ingredients at the local market, then learn to prepare a complete Ital meal including a hearty stew, fresh salad, and traditional sides. You'll learn about the philosophy behind Ital food: no salt, no artificial ingredients, and a deep connection to the earth's natural bounty. Take home recipe cards and the skills to recreate these dishes anywhere in the world.
Reasoning Session & Philosophy
Participate in a traditional 'reasoning' session — the Rastafarian practice of open dialogue and philosophical discussion. Led by a community elder, these sessions explore Rastafarian philosophy, history, and contemporary relevance through respectful conversation. Topics may include the concept of livity (righteous living), the connection between African identity and spirituality, environmental stewardship, and the role of music as a vehicle for social change. This is not a lecture — it's a genuine exchange of ideas where every voice is valued.
Maasai Village Visit
Visit an authentic Maasai village and learn about traditional Maasai culture, customs, and way of life. Participate in daily activities including cattle herding, traditional beadwork, and the famous adumu (jumping dance). Your Maasai guide will share stories about their deep connection to the land, their pastoral lifestyle, and how modern life is changing their traditions. A portion of your visit fee goes directly to the community's school and healthcare fund.
Coffee & Spice Farm Tour
Discover the journey from bean to cup at a local coffee plantation on the slopes of Mount Meru, combined with a visit to a spice garden. Learn about traditional coffee growing, processing methods, and roasting techniques passed down through generations. Then explore the spice garden where you'll see, smell, and taste cloves, cinnamon, vanilla, cardamom, and black pepper — understanding their role in both Tanzanian cuisine and Rastafarian natural living philosophy. End with a fresh coffee tasting session with stunning mountain views.
Tingatinga Art Workshop

Founded by Edward Said Tingatinga in the 1960s, this distinctive style features bright enamel paints on masonite board, depicting wildlife, village life, and imaginative scenes. Under the guidance of a local Tingatinga artist, you'll learn the techniques, choose your subject, and create your own masterpiece to take home. The workshop supports the Tingatinga Arts Cooperative, which provides livelihoods for dozens of local artists.
