The event
Our own gathering around Bob Marley's birthday: Nyabinghi drumming and chanting, an ital feast cooked over fire, and roots reggae into the night — held in Arusha and again in Stone Town.
This is the event closest to who we are. Every 6 February we host a groundation — Nyabinghi drums, chanting, reasoning, and an ital meal cooked over open fire with no salt and nothing from a tin. Guests are welcome as participants rather than spectators; the drumming is taught, not performed at you.
The Arusha gathering sits in the coffee country outside town and runs from late afternoon into the night. A second, larger celebration follows in Stone Town, where the reggae scene needs no help from us and February already has the island full of musicians.
For travellers, the practical value is timing: the celebration lands in the same fortnight as calving season on the Ndutu plains and Sauti za Busara on Zanzibar, so one trip can hold all three.

The Great Migration

Calving Season on the Ndutu Plains
On the short-grass plains around Ndutu the wildebeest drop nearly half a million calves inside a few weeks. It is the most concentrated wildlife spectacle in Africa and the best big-cat action of the year.
